Water Harvesting through Small Agricultural Reservoirs for sustainable water management

The edition of 2024-25 of the online course of the Water Harvesting Lab will be on “Water Harvesting through Small Agricultural Reservoirs for sustainable water management

The course is organized in collaboration with the AG-WaMED PRIMA Project.

The call for application is open!

The online professional training course will deal with Small Agricultural Reservoirs as a tool for sustainable and resilient water management. Such structures are widely used in different parts of the world, from Southern America to Europe and East Asia. Even if their adoption is widespread, multiple challenges are still to be solved for their management, related to the planning of new small reservoirs, their potential for a multipurpose use, the problems given by excessive evapotranspiration due to climate change and siltation and the legal issues that farmers can have for their management.

The course will support prospective students with general information on Small Agricultural Reservoirs and will develop specific skills on best siting, designing, management and monitoring of such structures.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Understand the hydrological functioning of a Small Agricultural Reservoir and the principles of its design.
• Develop an evaluation of the potential (multiple) water uses of a Small Agricultural Reservoir.
• Perform a best siting analysis.
• Assess the main risks for a small reservoir management, also related to siltation.
• Understand the social dynamics related to the development of new small reservoir.

The course is entirely online, in English and will be organized over four modules. The cost for enrolment is 150 Euros, plus 16 Euros of fees.

All the lessons will be streamed live and recorded for the students who cannot attend. Lessons will be given by international experts.
