11th European Conference on Wood Modification

Introduction to the conference

We are proud to announce that the 11th European Conference on Wood Modification (ECWM11) will take place in Firenze, Italy on April 15-16, 2024 in the city center in the Auditorium of S. Apollonia in San Gallo road.

The European Conference on Wood Modification provides a forum for individuals from research organizations and companies as well as stakeholders, architects and project managers to learn about the latest developments in this rapidly evolving field, to discuss with renowned experts and to build networks in an informal and friendly atmosphere.
The conference will cover all forms of wood modification, including, but not limited to, thermal, oleo thermal, thermo-hydro-mechanical, chemical and impregnation modifications, as well as emerging technologies such as microwave, plasma and enzymatic modification. There will also be sessions dealing with testing methods and standards, environmental issues, quality control and various aspects of commercialization and markets. In parallel to main keynotes, different kinds of presentations (oral or poster) will be proposed according to scientific committee evaluation.
It is now 20 years since the first European Conference on Wood Modification took place in Ghent in 2003.
Since then, there have been many advances in the area of wood modification and the market for commercial modified wood products has expanded. In this conference, we will explore how modified wood products might contribute to the development of a more resource efficient future providing new challenges and opportunities to mitigate climate change.
The conference will be co-organized by the Department of Agriculture, Food, Environment and Forestry (DAGRI) of the University of Florence, the Institute for Bio-Economy (IBE) of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) and the School of Agriculture, Forest, Food and Environmental Sciences (SAFE) of the University of Basilicata.
The conference is also supported by the Wood Value Chain division of the Italian Society of Silviculture and Forest Ecology (SISEF).
We look forward to welcome you in Florence!
Giacomo GOLI (Chair of Local Organizing Committee) and
Holger MILITZ (Chair of Scientific Committee)
